The Black Book

The Black Book, by Ian Rankin.

More than one set of ghosts from the past have come to visit Inspector John Rebus and DS Brian Holmes. The body found after the Carlton Hotel fire, John's younger brother Mickey, and who knows what else??
A Good Hanging

A Good Hanging and Other Stories, by Ian Rankin.

A short story collection featuring Inspector John Rebus, all excellent. Excellent.

Hide and Seek

Hide and Seek, by Ian Rankin.

Another John Rebus mystery, a character I've swiftly come to adore. Tempted by damn near everything, it's almost a story of whether or not he'll keep resisting than a tale of murder and more. Dark, grimy, dingy, and messy in an ethical kind of way. Down in hell, better known as Pilmuir, a young junkie overdoses. Or does he?
Knots and Crosses

Knots and Crosses, by Ian Rankin.

I went looking for books by Ian Rankin after seeing a BBC dramatisation of one of his Rebus books not long ago. Knots and Crosses definitely delivers. Dirty, intriguing - and that's Rebus and the world he lives in.

A serial killer, mysterious messages on Rebus' doorstep, drugs and nosy journalist land Rebus in some deep shit, physically and emotionally. Definitely worth reading.
Bring Me The Head of Prince Charming

Bring Me The Head of Prince Charming, by Roger Zelazny and Robert Sheckley.

Funny, but kind of boring, too. I was reading a bunch of other stuff at the same time, so maybe I just didn't pay enough attention.
